Now I’ve had this post stashed away for almost a year because I didn’t know when would be the best time to cash it in (I know, I’m pretty OCD) but considering that we recently celebrated the anniversary of J.K. Rowling finishing the Deathly Hallows’ ten years ago, I thought this would be a good time to finally bring out the old tag and geek out in true Potterhead fashion. So do enjoy! I made a few tweaks to this tag by adding questions of my my own, so feel free to borrow this version if you wished to do this tag in the future.
Happy anniversary Potterheads, and let’s continue making this the best fandom in the world–because we ARE! A very happy Thursday to you all, and cheers:)
1. Favorite book in the series?
Goblet of Fire. People complain about how long and unnecessarily detailed this book is, but I like that how it coughs up so many random details that I can geek out over.
2. Least favorite book?
Deathly Hallows. It’s so tonally different from the rest of the series, and it spent too much time away from familiar characters. Oh, and those characters just DIE in the end. (Moody!!! Hedgwig!!! Dobby!!! Fred!!! LUPIN!!! *continues shouting into the night*)
3. Favorite movie?
Sorceror’s Stone. For me, it’s the most visually pleasing movie of the franchise, and there are a lot of quiet, reflective scenes that ground this movie on an emotional level that other movies don’t quite achieve in my opinion.
4. Least favorite movie?
Definitely Order of the Phoenix. I mean, it’s so watered down and gimmicky! Umbridge coming off as a second-rate villain when she’s arguably the most evil one in the series, Percy’s entire feud with his family being omitted, and so on. Just, no.
5. Favorite quote?
“Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry. But why on earth should that mean that it is not real?” – Albus Dumbledore
“Things we lose have a way of coming back to us in the end, if not always in the way we expect.” – Luna Lovegood
“Nothing like a nighttime stroll to give you ideas.” – Mad-Eye Moody
6. Favorite Weasley?
I like all of them, but I gravitate towards Percy for some reason. He’s one pompous bastard, but his snobbishness makes me laugh, and I love how complicated his character arc is. Especially with him being the last person that Fred ever spoke to…there’s something poetically tragic about the fact that they reconcile and bond for the first time in years right before Fred dies:(
7. Favorite female character?
McGonagall! I love that she’s warm, but never allows herself to be cowed by authority. Like when she yells at Fudge for bringing a dementor into Hogwarts, or charging at the Aurors when they’re attacking Hagrid, or calling Umbridge out on her bullshit. DAYUM she’s fierce! Not to mention hilarious. I mean, remember this?
“Harry witnessed Professor McGonagall walking right past Peeves who was determinedly loosening a crystal chandelier and could have sworn he heard her tell the poltergeist out of the corner of her mouth, “It unscrews the other way.”
8. Favorite villain?
Barty Crouch Jr., a.k.a. Imposter Moody. I know he only lasted one book, but I think if he’d made it through the entire series, he would’ve made the most intimidating villain ever. I mean, he’s cunning as Snape (he fooled even Dumbledore, whoa) and his obsessive loyalty to Voldemort matches that of Bellatrix. SCA-RY.
9. Favorite male character?
I would’ve said Harry because he’s modest, relatively chill, and he’s the kind of friend I’d like to have. But after his whole puberty ordeal in Order of the Phoenix, I’d probably go with Malfoy (he’s always an interesting character) or Lupin (he’s so damn likable!).
10. Favorite professor?
Lupin. He’s just NICE, and seems to be the kind of teacher who won’t play favorites, the kind to bring out the potential in meek students like Neville.
11. Would you rather a) wash Snape’s hair or b) spend a day listening to Lockhart rant about himself?
Neither seems that bad to me…? But to save time, I’ll just go with the shampoo and get it over with–tergeo! See how easy that was?
12. Would you rather duel a) an elated Bellatrix or b) an angry Molly?
Look, Molly Weasley is a badass, but Bellatrix’s maniacal face while I’m dueling her would make me pee in my pants. And then she’d kill me while I’m distracted. Therefore, I’d much rather duel an angry Molly…at least she can be reasoned with, doesn’t look as scary, and (probably) wouldn’t kill me.
13. Would you rather travel to Hogwarts using a) the Hogwarts Express or b) a flying car?
Sure, I’ll give the flying car a go. But in the long run, definitely the Hogwarts Express–I love trains!
14. Would you rather give a) Voldemort a kiss or b) Umbridge a bubble bath?
Eww, Voldemort is like 70 years old! If this was a handsome teenage Voldemort, I’d have no qualms about digging in…but even then, it’s so much easier to dump Umbridge in a bath full of bubbles and walk away, right?
15. Would you rather fly a) a hippogriff or b) a Firebolt?
Hippogriffs are nice and all, but I slip off horses even with a saddle. Definitely Firebolt because it’s light, accessible, and doesn’t have a mind of its own.
16. Is there a character you felt differently about in the movies?
Snape. He’s nowhere near as vile in the movies as he was in the books, and Alan Rickman infact makes Snape downright hilarious and likable! Although of course Ginny is a close second. I don’t blame Bonnie Wright…they didn’t give her enough screen time to be that badass she was in the books.
17. Is there a movie you preferred to the book?
Maybe Sorceror’s Stone? Just because I can actually visualize all the wand-waving, Diagon Alley shopping, and Hogwarts’ warm and colorful delights. (And it’s the only movie that legitimately made me cry.)
Otherwise, books ftw!
18. Richard Harris or Michael Gambon as Dumbledore?
Definitely Richard Harris. I like how he seems to embody Dumbledore’s light-hearted and gentle spirit a bit more, whereas Michael Gambon was a bit humorless and rather intimidating at times…never mind, scratch that, he was intimidating all the time lol.
19. Your top thing that you wanted in the movies that wasn’t there?
They left Dumbledore’s funeral out, which was a huge no-no for me, and Harry’s reconciliation with the Dursleys was omitted too. I’m still sitting here like, “WHERE’S MY CATHARSIS?!”
20. If you could remake any of the Harry Potter movies, which would it be?
All of them, but especially Deathly Hallows and Order of the Phoenix. They’re decent as they are, but there’s so much more potential to do more justice to the books in my opinion.
21. Which house was your first gut feeling you’d be a part of?
My brain told me I was Ravenclaw–you know, the creative side of me, and I’m pretty smart–but I’m definitely Hufflepuff at heart. And I’d choose Hufflepuff. I think they’d make for better friends.
22. Which house were you actually sorted into on Pottermore?
Ravenclaw, but on subsequent re-takes, I got Hufflepuff too. I still consider myself Ravenclaw since I get that result a lot more.
23. Which class would be your favorite?
Charms would be the most useful, but I think Divination with Firenze would be amazing because I love star-gazing. And you can take subtle naps if you ever needed to! 😀
24. Which spell do you think would be most useful to learn?
Everyone agrees that accio is the most useful, but tergeo anyone? You can clean dishes in the blink of an eye!
25. Which character do you think you’d instantly become friends with?
Luna and Neville for sure, but also Harry and Dean–they all seem pretty chill, which is my kind of people:)
26. If you could own one of the three Hallows, which would it be?
Resurrection Stone! I don’t need a Cloak since I have plenty of places to hide if I ever needed to disappear, and I don’t see the point of owning a powerful wand if I’m not going to be fighting anyone. Besides, it’d be nice to have conversations with the dead whenever I’m in need of company.
27. Is there an aspect of the books you’d want to change?
The epilogue. It ends on too predictable a note for me, and I think ending with the golden trio in Dumbledore’s office (the penultimate chapter) would make for a much more moving way to end the series.
28. Favorite marauder?
Once again, Moony! Padfoot is great too, but Lupin has been my favorite character since book 3, and my love for him hasn’t waned since. Why did he have to die again?
29. If you could bring one character back to life, who would it be?
Hedwig! When she died in the book, I felt like Harry’s childhood had died with her, and I think her return won’t change anything about the books except give Harry the comfort and cheer he needs. SO BRING HER BACK ALREADY.
30. Hallows or Horcruxes?
Hallows, duh. What would I do with immortality besides sitting around eating Chocolate Frogs all day long and contributing absolutely nothing to society?
31. What one moment or event from the books would you choose to experience in person?
Quidditch World Cup! It’s a party yo~~
32. Who is your favorite couple from the series?
Lupin and Tonks, Mr. and Mrs. Weasley…I also really dig Bill and Fleur as well. Their romance making everyone uncomfortable is downright hilarious, but Fleur sticking by Bill after his mishap is also really sweet and touching:)
33. Who is your favorite Harry Potter actor?
Rupert Grint. I feel like he doesn’t get as much love because he plays one of the worst characters in the series, but his acting is very natural in my opinion, and at least he doesn’t make dramatic faces all the time (cough, Emma Watson!)
But of course, Maggie Smith and Alan Rickman (may he rest in peace) deserve a shout-out, as well as David Thewlis as Lupin. Thewlis might not look or act much like Lupin from the books, but I surprisingly liked his interpretation of the character.
34. Which character would you choose to be in a relationship with?
Viktor Krum! He’s intimidating and socially awkward at times, but he’s still a sweetheart at heart, and that’s all that matters. Not to mention, he liked Hermione BEFORE she was hot.
35. Which would you choose to have an endless supply of: Veritaserum or Polyjuice potion?
Veritaserum. It would come in very handy catching serial killers, or my sister when she’s stealing stuff from my room.
36. Which moment from the series made you the saddest?
Sirius’ death, hands down. Not only is his death utterly bleak in that he just dies without fulfilling any sort of happiness in his life, but Harry’s reaction to it just made me bawl. Although Fawkes’ departure from Hogwarts after Dumbledore’s death made me cry pretty hard too:
“As he lay there, he became aware suddenly that the grounds were silent. Fawkes had stopped singing. And he knew, without knowing how he knew it, that the phoenix had left Hogwarts for good, just as Dumbledore had left the school, had left the world…had left Harry.”
37. Which is your favorite Harry Potter book cover?
I really like Sorcerer’s Stone, as well as Prisoner of Azkaban (the Mary Grandpre version). They’re detailed, vibrant, and mysterious, and they both give you so many hints and references as to what’s in the story. (Least favorite would be Deathly Hallows.)
38. What form would your Patronus take?
Turtle! I’m slow and contemplative, but it works for me in the long run.
30. What Patronus did you actually get on Pottermore?
A freaking hyena. What the…?
40. If you ever created a Horcrux, where would you hide it?
I would choose my copy of The Once and Future King to hide my soul in because–well, books are my soul, and The Once and Future King is my of them all. But as for location, no one’s looking to destroy me, so I’d just hide it at the back of my bookshelf…you know, the whole “hiding a tree in the forest” thing.
41. What would be your ideal occupation in the Wizarding world?
Probably a Professor, perhaps a Healer? An author like Lockhart sounds good too though.
42. Favorite creature or pet from the series?
Nifflers! They’re cute as hell, and they’d make me rich beyond belief. Yes, I’m materialistic, WHAT.
43. If you were on the Quidditch team, which position would you play?
Definitely Keeper. I’m quite good at defense, and I don’t think my athletics are up to snuff to play any other position anyway.
44. What was the most shocking or surprising moment in the series for you?
The reveal of Moody as Barty Crouch Jr. in Goblet of Fire, Snape’s betrayal/murder of Dumbledore in Half-Blood Prince, Fred’s death in Deathly Hallows….TOO MANY TO CHOOSE ONLY ONE!
45. What moment in the series made you laugh the most?
Madame Delacour glided forwards and stooped to kiss Mrs Weasley too. “Enchantée,” she said. “Your ‘usband ‘as been telling us such amusing stories!”
Mr Weasley gave a maniacal laugh; Mrs Weasley threw him a look, upon which he became immediately silent and assumed an expression appropriate to the sickbed of a close friend.
Lmao!!! XD There’s too many to list, but you can check out my post of the funniest moments from Harry Potter here.
46. If you could meet any member of the cast, who would it be?
These two! I’ve heard they’re super nice.
47. Which animal would you be as an Animagus?
Ideally something predatory? I mean, I don’t want to be eaten while running amok in my animal form, so perhaps a hawk (for flying) or a whale/shark (so I can go deep ocean-diving).
48. Did you ship any couple in the series that didn’t come to fruition?
In a word? Yes.
They looked at each other. Luna was smiling slightly. Harry did not know what to say, or to think. Luna believed so many extraordinary things…yet he had been sure he had heard voices behind the veil too…
“Are you sure you don’t want me to help you look for your stuff?” he said.
“Oh no,” said Luna. “No, I think I’ll just go down and have some pudding and wait for it all to turn up….it always does in the end. Well, have a nice holiday, Harry.”
“Yeah … yeah, you too.”
She walked away from him and, as he watched her go, he found that the terrible weight in his stomach seemed to have lessened slightly.
49. Which would you choose: Legilimens like Snape, Metamorphmagus like Tonks, or Animagus like Sirius?
I think it’s somewhat foul play to dig around in people’s minds, so I’d eliminate Legilimens, as extremely tempting as it is. And while being a Metamorphmagus would be nice, it’s not wholly necessary. So Animagus it is then! Prowling around in another skin would give me the privacy I need, and if I ever need to dig around for secrets, I could just spy on people in my animal form:)
50. What Harry Potter spinoff would you most want to see?
The Marauders! Any of these characters would make for a brilliantly dark, tragic, and action-packed franchise.
Bonus question: Describe your love for Harry Potter in one word.
What she said:)
Needless to say, I’ve been badly bitten by the Potterbug, and I should probably get a move on finding a cure for it. I mean, I’m at the age to be over it already, no?
But then, who cares. This fandom has given me more hope and pleasure than I possibly could have imagined in my life, and I’m just grateful to be part of it. So thanks J.K. Rowling, and happy anniversary to us Potterheads. Cheers!
